Employees are on duty Monday – Thursday from 8:30 AM to 6 PM.

Fridays 8:30 AM to 12 PM.

Offices are closed on City holidays.

SMHA personnel are available by telephone, email, or messages in our night drops.

Applying for Housing

Applications for Public Housing may be downloaded from our website  You must print and complete the application. Attach all required documents and place it in the night drop at the main office (1201 Thorpe Lane). If you do not have access to a printer, call 512-353-5059.

You will need:

  • Birth Certificates for everyone
  • Social Security cards for everyone
  • Picture I.D.’s for everyone over the age 18 yrs
  • Any information related to income (wages, retirement, SS/SSI payments, TANF & child Support)
There is a wait list for all of our housing programs. The wait depends upon how many people are on the list for each bedroom size. The longest wait times are for 1 and 2-bedroom units. Local preferences are in place for Hays County residents.
