How to Apply for Housing

Employees are on duty Monday – Thursday from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM and on Fridays from 8:30 AM to 12 PM.

SMHA personnel are available by telephone, email, or messages in our night drops. Offices are closed on City holidays.

The Housing Authority gives preference to applicants who live or work in Hays County. If you do not qualify for the preference, later applicants who meet this qualification are advanced ahead of you on the waitlist. The preferences are not based on how long you have lived in Hays County. If you work in Hays County, or have been notified that you have been hired to work in Hays County, you will be treated as a resident of Hays County.

The San Marcos Housing Authority is an Equal Opportunity Housing provider. All SMHA properties are smoke-free.

PUBLIC HOUSING (1, 2, 3, 4, & 5-bedroom units)

WE ARE NOT TAKING APPLICATIONS FOR 1 BEDROOM UNITS AT THIS TIME. 

Applications for Public Housing may be downloaded from our website.  You must print, complete the application and turn it in with all supporting documentation at the main office (1201 Thorpe Lane) during business hours. If you do not have access to a printer, call 512-353-5059.

You will need:

  • Birth Certificates for everyone
  • Social Security cards for everyone
  • Picture I.D.’s for everyone over the age 18 yrs
  • Any information related to income (wages, retirement, SS/SSI payments, TANF & child Support)

SPRINGTOWN VILLA (1 & 2-bedroom units — must be elderly or disabled)

To apply to Springtown Villa, call 512-396-3363 for instructions. Applications can be mailed to you upon request or picked up from the office at 503 Springtown Way, San Marcos, TX 78666. You must bring all required documents when turning in the application.

CHAPULTEPEC FAMILY SELF-SUFFICIENCY PROGRAM (2, 3, & 4-bedroom units)

Must be motivated to succeed! Click HERE for more information.

SECTION 8 HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER PROGRAM (1, 2, 3, & 4-bedroom units in the local, privately-owned housing market)

WE ARE NOT TAKING APPLICATIONS FOR SECTION 8 AT THIS TIME.

Apply at the Allen Woods Homes at 1201 Thorpe Lane.
